National Guard Continue at Cozumel International

Cozumel News February 20,
Cozumel International

Riviera Maya News reported that National Guard will continue at Cozumel International for time being According to Rigoberto Lira Carrillo, who took office as the new Commander of the airport, the National Guard will continue to provide airport security until the federal government instructs otherwise.

At least seven airports across the country, two of which include Cancun and Cozumel, will see a security detail switch from the National Guard to the Navy. The change has taken place at the Cancun International Airport. However, there is no date set for when that change will be made at the Cozumel International Airport.

Both airports are part of the federal government’s immigration and customs restructuring to curb corruption and help improve traveler services for those visiting the country.

Word of Warning: A sure way to have your bags inspected is to have food on you. I saved the remainder of my snack package provided by the airline on a recent trip. The military dog made a vee line for my backpack and sat down next to me. Both soldier and dog were nice and courteous, however, it was an immediate red flag to have all my luggage searched.

Help Needed! The Store Needs a New Copier / Printer

The Cozumel Sun Book Exchange & Store

We are functioning with a couple of Epson Printers more suited for home and office needs than a printing business. Our backup printer is not worth repairing. The functioning printer is at least three years old. Julian just filled a printing order for 28 forty-eight-page books for a local school. As advertised, we print and bind books. Using our current outdated printer, the job was doable, but time consuming. The one steady income we can rely on is printing and copying. Without a functioning back up printer, we are worried.  Please consider donating to the book exchange store so we can purchase a professional printer.

There are 150 books that are waiting to be sorted and placed on the shelves. Since grandson Julian in holding down the book exchange and store singlehandedly all month, unpacking the new books will have to wait until I return. This is the second large donation of books that we have received in the last month. We are reaching our limit of shelving and space.
