RFC Deadline Approaching

SAMPLE RFC

A new Mexican Law requires all citizens and legal residents (permanent and temporary) of Mexico 18 years and over have an RFC number. (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes). NEW DEADLINE JANUARY 2023!

An RFC is a tax identification number, like your United States Social Security number if you are an individual. If you have worked in Mexico, own and operated a business, are part of a corporation, you already have one.

However, now everyone must have an RFC number even if you do not have a Mexican income. The Mexican government is requiring all businesses and utilities that issue Facturas (legal invoices) to report their customer’s RFC number.

You must have a legitimate RFC now to purchase a vehicle, open a bank account, receive a CFE invoice, contract a cable company, etc.

To Obtain an RFC

Make an appointment at your nearest SAT office to obtain your RFC. To do so, go to https://citas.sat.gob.mx/.

At your appointment you will need to bring copies and originals the usual documentation (CURP, Utility invoice, Immigration Documentation, Passport) plus a thumb or flash drive.
