We have found more than a few things to love about Mérida after several visits in the past year. One of the main things is the cool, friendly, comfortable hotel, Luz en Yucatan. Their location is perfect: you can walk to several of the nice parks and plazas in centro, not to mention several good restaurants. The beginning of the famous Paseo de Montejo is only four blocks away with the world class Museo Regional de Antropología.
Located in Centro next door to the Santa Lucia church (which, for some reason, does NOT ring their bells every morning), the former colonial home has a great mix of Yucatecan style, comfortable beds, and upgraded bathrooms. Throw in an amiable owner, employees who want to please, a great pool, a full-size communal kitchen, and parking across the street and you’ve got the perfect place in Mérida, La Ciudad Blanca.
If you are a regular reader, you might remember that we posted less-than-glowing comments about this sprawling city last fall. But, Mérida is starting to grow on us and we are discovering it’s charms and attractions.
We’ll go into a few more of the reasons why we like to visit Mérida in our next post. Please add the things you have discovered about this warm (in more ways than one) city.
