Cozumel La Tienda Guido’s Breakfast
A great, relatively new addition to the breakfast choices for Cozumel, is definitely one of the better choices. La Tienda Guido’s has great lunches, an amazing selection of local and imported foods, an impressive deli case and an extraordinary wine and Belgian beer inventory. Now add great breakfasts to that list.
Two of our favorite items on the menu are the huevos motuleños suizo and the huevos pocheados Guidos. The motuleños are two fried eggs on tortillas, a smear of black beans, savory tomatoes, peas, bits of chorizo and grated swiss cheese. The poached eggs are on an English muffin, with black forest ham and a chipotle bechamel sauce. Two nice twists on classic egg dishes. We shared bites and it will be hard to choose which dish I will order next time. I loved both of them.
A side of fresh fruit comes with the eggs. One of us got the fruit plate topped with the homemade yogurt. Wow.
For coffee snobs like me and my friend Steve (who roasts his own beans), we were more than a little suspicious of the coffee pods and machine by Nespresso. You have your choice of nearly eight different strengths or flavors of coffee. The milk steamer/frother is part of the Nespresso unit. Pretty much automatic espresso. We were both impressed. Really good cups of coffee and rich, foamy milk. It’s probably the best latte that I have had from a no-fuss espresso machine. Ask at the tienda about purchasing a machine and the pods.
La Tienda Guido’s is open for breakfast at 8:00 am every day except Sunday. Av 15 and Calle 10.
