In Cozumel News a Planetarium coming to Cozumel, a much-needed increase in cruise ship arrivals, and two new hotels coming to Cozumel.
There will be a planetarium on the island of Cozumel
There will be a planetarium on the island of Cozumel. Governor Roberto Borge Angulo announced in a press release that construction will begin early next year of a Cozumel Planetarium, with investment of 45 million, provided by the State Government and the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
The National Council of Science and Technology’s objective is to awaken Planetarium interest in science, technology, innovation and the universe among the population, especially among youth and children, as required by Solidarity axis Plan 2011-2016.
Governor stated that the Cozumel planetarium will be for both the community and the tourists to appreciate science, technology, culture and the natural wealth of the area. The Governor described a Planetarium in Cozumel as a breakthrough, especially for children and students; it will open, literally, a door to the Universe.
There is a planetarium in Cancun and one in Chetumal. The Governor’s plan is to have a total of six in the state of Quintana Roo during his administration.
Things Looking Up for Tourism
More than 15,000 tourists are expected to arrive in Cozumel today and tomorrow on cruise ships. The World’s largest cruise ship, the Allure of the Sea, The Norwegian Jewel, and Carnival Magic are in port today. They will collectively bring in some 10,000 tourists and have activity in all three piers.
Another three cruise ships arrive tomorrow in Puerta Maya and Punta Langosta piers. eleven cruise ships are scheduled to arrive next week in Cozumel.
Two New Hotels scheduled for 2014
El Semanario reported that construction of two new hotels in Cozumel is scheduled to begin in 2014. One is to be built in the vicinity of the curves across from Tormentos Reef and another where the Sol Cabañas Hotel once stood.
One hotel will have 120 rooms with a dive focused theme concept and part of a master plan called “Bahia Turquesa”, where in addition to the hotel, it will provide for 90 residential waterfront condominiums.”
The other hotel that was formerly Sol Cabañas is to be a 15 story tower that connects to the golf course and will boast of beach access and golfing.
