Cruz Roja Cozumel Seeking Specialists
The president of the board of the CRM, Daniel Cortes Rueda reported that they will build two rooms on the grounds of the Cruz Roja Cozumel. The investment of 150 thousand pesos is an effort to attract specialists from other cities. For two years Allergist, Alejandro Alfaro Hernandez, has traveled from his home in Mexico City to Cozumel every month to see patients at CRM in need of this specialty. Doctors such as Alfaro Hernandez must cover their own transportation expenses, lodging and food. The doctors offer their services at low-cost to the local population and help to increase the income of the CRM that is a nonprofit institution. The Cruz Roja Mexico seeks to build two residences within the premises of the CRM to offer lodging to the Specialists and to attract other doctors to Cozumel. Among others, they are in need of Specialists in the fields of Cardiology, Geriatric and Psychiatry. Patients in need of these specialists must travel to other cities for treatment.
New library needed
The City of Cozumel is seeking five million pesos that is needed to build a new public library in Cozumel. The current library, which was remodeled last time during the 2008-2011 administration, has structural problems and limited space and access.
In 1976 the “Professor Gonzalo de Jesús Rosado Iturralde”, Public Library was founded to give students in Cozumel space for academic consultations. It is located on Eighth Street North and 30th Avenue in Colonia Centro. The library houses some 8,000 books and serves about 40 people per day, which is considered an adequate amount for the size of the facility.
The library has a budget of 500 thousand pesos a year, which is used to give the building corrective maintenance. Luis Felipe Tello Hernández, Director of Education, acknowledged that due to its age, the building has structural problems and services that need attention. He accepted that giving maintenance to the 36-year-old building lengthens its life but the best option is a more modern building. However, building a new library was not budgeted this year and there are no resources available.

During the tour, children and youth used bicycles to circulate in and about the activities of the armed forces. Some attendees took the opportunity to be photographed in the company of members and military equipment. Similar activities are planned for the months of July and October.
