Firefighters had to clean the streets of debris that was preventing the heavy rains from draining in various colonies around the island earlier this week. The fault is placed on residents who do not deposit trash in containers.
Fire Department Commander Alberto May Borge, said that since the first showers an average of eight firefighters have been assigned the responsibility if clearing the trash that is causing the flooding in Colonies 10 de abril, Emiliano Zapata, Chentuk, San Gervasio, CTM, Repobladores, Independencia and San Miguel I y II, where garbage saturation is the main cause of the drains clogging.

Director of Civil Protection, Lucio Alejandro Canul Andrade, reported that Public Works staff has dedicated themselves to visit the lowest points of colonies “April 10, Andrés Quintana Roo, Independence, Adolfo Lopez Mateos, Emiliano Zapata, San Miguel I and II”, and part of the Transversal road.

Upon completion, Canul Andrade said that according to the weather forecast, Monday through Thursday will remain cloudy with light rain and moderate winds of 30 to 35 miles per hour. He advised that it is important to seek support and advice through the 066 number and Civil Protection at 87-20-800.

Cozumel Odyssey at sea
Three independent fishermen are grateful to God for keeping them alive. They managed to save their own lives by swimming over seven miles to the shore where they were rescued. Last Monday the trio of fishermen were reported as missing in the northern part of the island, after the captain of the vessel “La Pinta”, in which they were traveling, lost what is colloquially known as the “bubble” of fishermen, who were diving at that time.
The three fishermen who were missing about 24 hours, were hospitalized for observation and said to be found in stable condition despite being slightly dehydrated. They were discharged from General Hospital after spending seven hours in observation and medical care.
