The private sector and Municipal Government are seeking ways to promote the island of Cozumel.Councilman Cesar Trejo Vazquez, who chairs the Committee on Tourism and Ecology, revealed that a request will be made to the Council of Solidarity, to allocate space on Fifth Avenue for the installation of an information module and for billboards along an area located on the Federal Highway in Solidarity, Cancun, These are some of the ideas that grew out of the Mexico Tourism Tianguis 2014, that took place in Cancun last month.
The information booth that exists now at the Ferry terminal will stay at the same site; they are seeking to have an extra booth at a location with high tourist traffic, to promote the brand “Cozumel” with printed materials of the island, electronic displays and highly trained people. The module would include more projection screens or monitors in which real images of beaches and reefs are projected, seeking to capture a larger market of visitors to the island. The plan is to have four employees in the booth trained by Cozumel Tourism Department to counteract negative publicity by Playa del Carmen merchants. Cesar Trejo Vazquez indicated the project of installing the billboards on the Federal Highways was also making strides. He will meet with , Luis Alcérreca Balmes, the President of the Employers Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) in Cozumel, who is also promoting the installation of billboards promoting Cozumel.

Borden Milk Removed
(Reported in Por Esto on June 6th, 2014)Cozumel self-service stores removed the Borden Milk from shelves, after learning that they could have been punished for selling it. According to the standards set in the NOM 051, the Federal Government must take measures to make sure that the products traded in the country, meet the requirement of having necessary information displayed on the label or container, for the consumer’s protection. Borden, originated in the United States and has for 150 years been used by American families and select stores in the Mexican market. Sources reported that Borden milk was acquired by Lala and allegedly is produced, packaged and distribute more in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the shelves, mostly because the label information was in English and lacked nutritional information and the number of millimeters in Spanish. In removing the product from their shelves, stores avoided fines of $650 pesos and penalties of about $3.5 million pesos, had they been caught with excessive quantities of the dairy product.
