On January 5th, children of PREVERP (Psychosocial Disabilities Prevention Program ), Child Development Center 1 (CENDI), City of Angels and children of workers of the Cozumel Palace Hotel, attended a simple festival in honor of Kings Day. The event was held at the Cozumel Palace Hotel, where children of the hotel workers joined a choir and sang carols, and hotel staff dressed as the Reyes Magos, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar to deliver toys to the children. A huge Rosca de Reyes was presented and enjoyed by the special guests.
The President of DIF Cozumel(System for Integral Family Development), Mrs. Gina Ruiz de Marrufo thanked the Cozumel Palace hotel for their generous invitation to host a “Día de Reyes” for vulnerable children. She thanked the General Manager of the hotel, Marcos Rojas, for the consortium to promote the love of Mexican traditions from an early age, as well as the Palace Foundation that collected the toys that brought smiles to the faces of children.
Cozumel Operation Guadalupe-Reyes 2014 Ends
The operation implemented by the Municipal Government through the Department of Civil Protection, called “Guadalupe-Reyes,” through which various preventive and relief actions were performed in benefit of the population and tourism has ended.
Under the direction of Mayor, Fredy Martin Marrufo, the plan was put into affect over the holiday period to safeguard the physical integrity of both domestic and foreign tourists, as well as the inhabitants of the island. The manager of the office of Civil Protection, Lucio Canul Alejandro Andrade, reported that since December 12 coordination between the members of the Emergency Corps and Public Works resulted in this holiday period ending in a “white balance”. (We did not lose a life.)
He explained that the “Green Angels” were on the roads busy giving attention to vehicles that were stranded on the road and sand, and provided fuel to those who ran out of fuel on the other side of the island.
He said that in the busiest beaches supported by lifeguards, four lives were saved in “San Martin” beach, two each on December 30th, 2014 and January 2nd, 2015.
Canul Andrade announced that Public Works also oversaw the use of fireworks in the city by citizens and verified permits and firework products in the stores that were selling them.
The Fire Department, attended four fires in private homes caused by overloaded series light bulbs on Christmas trees; a motorcycle fire, a car fire, four vehicle rollovers; and cleaned oil spills on a public street on nine occasions.
Cozumel installs Module for Obtaining Environmental Operating License
In order to bring services to citizens, the Municipal Government through the Department of Environment and Ecology launched a module for businesses that need to obtain their environmental operating license.
Gerardo Uribe Ordoñez, head of the Legal Unit of the Department of Environment and Ecology said that the permit is for various commercial and business establishments that are generators of hazardous waste or solid waste, which are categorized as hotels, clinics, medical, veterinary, bakeries, supermarkets, some shops, among other businesses.
He emphasized that the environmental operating permit contemplated in the Finance Act of the Municipality of Cozumel, Article 134, third section, which became effective for fiscal year 2015. Ordoñez Uribe said that by law, the deadline for the process is February 28th.
The module, located on the grounds of City Hall, will operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The same service will be provided at the offices of the Department of Environment and Ecology, located at Avenida 65 between Calle 31 and 33.
Cozumel DIF to Offer Affordable Eye Care and Orthotics
DIF Cozumel will provide free consultations for Eye Care and Orthotics on January 15th and 16th. They will be offering lenses and orthotic devices at low cost. The Cozumel DIF system invites all those who require eye exams or have any orthotic problem, to seize this opportunity to consult free of charge with the specialists who will come from the city of Mérida.
Lenses can be purchased for $400 pesos. You need only a deposit of $200 pesos at the time of your visit, and pay the remaining $200 when the lenses are delivered. The campaign with the orthopedist will be offering products at low cost.
Both campaigns will take place on Thursday, January 15th, 12 Noon to 4 pm, and Friday 16th, from 10 a.m. to 4 pm, at the facilities of the DIF system Cozumel.
Cozumel Offers Free School of Arts Classes
Through the Department of culture, the Municipal Government invites the public to enroll their children in various free workshops that promote the development of children and young people. The Director of this department, Manuel Vidal Alcocer Angulo explained that there are many options for people of all ages to be part of the workshops.
There are around 50 options to choose from between the different areas. There are children’s painting, advanced painting and sculpture workshops in arts. There are singing classes, choir, guitar, beginners and advanced drums, melodic and trumpet. There are many more musical instruments workshops available in music. In the area of dance, there is folklore workshops for children, youth and adults, aerobics, mini jazz, youth jazz, ballet and Caribbean dances, to mention a few. They classes are in different shifts and groups, depending on the knowledge.
In this sense the official made an invitation to those interested in being part of the students of the “School of Arts” which start their courses on Monday, January 19, to register from 12 to 16 January of this year, on a schedule of 8 o’clock to 19 o’clock in the facilities of the Directorate of culture located in calle Adolfo Rosado Salas between 105 and 120 avenues (Park of the pencils) Cologne “Juan Bautista Vega”
In terms of the requirements reported that only need present copies of the Act of birth of the person concerned, the CURP and proof of residence, child size photos, as well as copy of the credential de elector, in case of being minor the person concerned, it shall also provide copy of official identification of the parent or guardian.
