April 19th 2015 phone 177 A Visit to Cozumel’s Juan Pablo II Senior Home

This Saturday my family went to Cozumel’s Senior Home, Juan Pablo II. My Grandson Julian’s Youth Group from Corpus Christi Church was also there visiting the thirteen residents and Nuns that care for them.

April 19th 2015 phone 169There was a table full of donated food items and supplies; each of the children brought an item to donate to the home. They spent the afternoon visiting with the “Abuelitos.” In Mexico, they are lovingly referred to as the Grandparents, not seniors.

We brought our own donations along with a number of supplies donated by Joyce Larsen. It was a wonderful experience to speak to the seniors and offer them love and companionship. Just holding the hand of a senior with dementia is comforting. Our 12-year-old grandson was upset that one of the Abuelitas told him her grandchildren had not visited for a long time. I explained that is why it is important that we visit the home on a regular basis.

April 19th 2015 phone 168Juan Pablo II Senior Home in Cozumel is not government funded. They rely on us for their needs. Equally important, the residents can use a visit here and there. The place is beautiful and kept spotless by the sisters. The doors are open to visitors anytime; they will welcome your visit and volunteers with open arms. There is a list of suggested donations in The Cozumel Sun: https://www.thecozumelsun.com/vol…/juan-pablo-ii-senior-home/

Make it a family project like we do, it is very rewarding

There has been nothing to write about on the news! I have received no invitations for press conferences, or press releases this past week. The only exception has been the continuing saga of the City and State Authorities’ pursuit of those responsible for the sand theft last month. I have not even seen any activity from DIF that usually floods my inbox. The Municipality must still be on Spring Break! It is quite possible everyone is just getting ready for El Cedral!

I want to remind readers that you are welcome to turn in relevant articles about living in Cozumel, travel, diving, snorkeling, and dining out, anything of interest. I am also desperately looking for assistance either part time or full time. I am making plans to return to the United States either late this year or the beginning of 2016 to have my hip replaced and the rest of my poor body repaired. I am looking for someone to take over The Cozumel Sun. either temporarily or permanently.  If you are interested, please contact me!
