Management staff of the FINA World Swimming Championship sport and representatives of the Navy made a tour to the tower that was built on the pier with a height of 27 meters on one side of the beach “Caletita.”

The vantage point from which the divers will compete is ready as is the area of bleachers for 300 people on the bedrock of the coast. It is anticipated that hundreds more will appreciate the event, as it is completely free.

Nine women and 24 men divers from 15 countries will seek a portion of the $118,000 dollars in prices to be distributed between 1st and 11th place between the Men and Women’s categories. The high dives will be from 20 meters for women and 27 meters for men.

David Callejas, event coordinator of the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN) said that Cozumel is ideal for events like the World Cup open water swimming and high diving venue; Cozumel could be considered as a permanent site of the diving world cup due to the clarity and depth of the water.

Twelve signs at a cost of $30,000 pesos each will soon appear on Cozumel roads warning motorists of wildlife crossings. The large metal signs will have large lettering and be visible during both daylight and nighttime. Local wildlife is under constant threat by motorist; the joint effort hopes to make a difference by providing awareness.

El Cedral 2015Festival in honor of the Santa Cruz de Sabán ended this past Sunday with the traditional dance “Cabeza de Cochino.” The festival and religious ceremony dates back to 1848.

My family attended El Cedral on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to find that the roads surrounding the large pavilion have been bricked. Parking was available right up to the pavilion and with the brick streets in place; the entertainment was completely accessible for wheel chairs and walkers. There was no cover charge to get in and all the traditional Dance entertainment at the pavilion was free of charge.

osprey1Cozumel Osprey Update

Bird watchers of Cozumel Island have reported a significant increase in sightings of Ospreys. Ospreys, relatives of the hawks were only present in the north part of the island until a couple of years ago.

osprey2Biologist Rafael Chacón Díaz revealed that a few years ago the Osprey began to have a presence in the south, specifically in the natural reserve of Chankanaab Park where there is a nest visible from the road to the Celaraine lighthouse.
