Happy Independence Day Mexico! Check out the Independence Day Events happening today and the rest of Patriot Month in our Events Calendar 2016. There will be another edition with more news and coverage of the Cozumel ITU event later in the week. It is a great time to be in Cozumel. Join in the celebrations, have fun, but be safe!

On September 7th, President of the Cozumel System for Integral Family Development (DIF), Gina Ruiz de Marrufo distributed new  wheelchairs , eyeglasses and hearing aids to residents of the most vulnerable sectors of the island.

Cozumel’s Ximena Betzabé Martínez Alarcón, was crowned as “Niña Independencia 2016” on September 10, 2016. The contest and coronation was part of the Patriot Month celebrating the 206 anniversary of the Independence of Mexico.

“Grupo Folclórico Ixchel” performed on Saturday September 10th and on Sunday the 11th the Folklore Group “Vamos Danzando” from the state of Campeche performed at Quintana Roo Park. The festivities continue tonight with many more performances and the traditional “Grito de Independencia” also at Quintana Roo Park.

The Municipal Government performed safety checks and inspections, (including gas facilities) of the fair rides and booths set up in and around Quintana Roo Park to ensure the holiday celebration is a safe one. The fair is located between Avenues Gonzalo Guerrero and fifth south with Calle 13 and Avenue Xel-Ha. There are about 20 rides and 15 street food stalls.

Welcome to the Cozumel Sun! Since 2006, TCS website, Facebook Group, and Facebook page has provided the latest news and information from Cozumel, Mexico. There are no paid staff. TCS is non-profit and non-government funded. Donations help pay for website expenses, taxes, and fees. Donations support our community assistance program. TCS Community Assistance TCS provides assistance to local individuals and families with emergency food, medical expenses and medication. We encourage both residents and visitors to give back to this island paradise by volunteering and donating to these existing community programs. TCS has successful matched those that want to help and those in need for many years. During the Pandemic, our resources go to the Community Kitchens that are feeding hundreds in Cozumel.
