Cozumel’s Gabriel Silva
At one time, Gabriel Silva was a professional dive master in Cozumel. Nearly seven years ago he was paralyzed in a diving accident trying to save another diver. Since the accident, Gabriel has struggled to support his family. Gabriel, known to everyone in Cozumel as Gabi, lives on our island paradise yet is unable to enjoy the beaches with his manual wheelchair. This is a problem that my husband Charles and I know of first hand, the frustration of watching the sand and water from afar, unable to enjoy it up close. An article that I read stated that very few of the beaches in Cozumel are wheelchair accessible, I personally do not know of any that are. The closest we have gotten to the water is paying a beach club or restaurant that has seating along the shore.
Gabi now has the opportunity to become the exclusive dealer for Freedom Trax in the Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, and Cancun. Freedom Trax is a power track attachment that can be adjusted to fit almost any wheelchair. It turns a manual wheel chair into a power chair that moves easily over sand. Since Freedom Trax is adjustable, it makes it a great product to rent.
Freedom Trax sell for $5,000. In the agreement to sell Freedom Trax, Gabi will get the first one for $3,000 to demo. This will be Gabi’s to use and rent. We are hoping that resorts, beach clubs, hotels and maybe even parks purchase a Freedom Trax to make their own establishments more wheelchair accessible, and provide a commission to Gabi.
There is a fundraiser on Sunday, November 12th to contribute to the purchase of the Freedom Trax that will be used by Gabi, please attend. The event is after the Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Cozumel 2017 Race at Chen Rio from 2:30 – 5 pm. The transversal road will be closed until two in the afternoon because of the race. Food will be available to purchase from Chef Gerald Javier Molina and Gabi’s wife, Maria. Come out and join us for a celebration of Gabriel Silva’s return to the beach.
The introduction of FreedomTrax to Cozumel Mexico contributes to Gabi’s and visitor’s life experiences. Be part of making this happen in Cozumel and help Gabi and others. Take part in helping Cozumel be more accessible to people with disabilities. If you want to contribute toward the purchase of Gabriel’s Freedom Trax or another Freedom Trax for your business or another individual, contact: https://www.gofundme.com/gabi-loco-silva . Everyone deserves to enjoy our Cozumel beaches! #freedomdivers#diveheart #cozumel #wheelchairaccessible #freedomtraxs.
Cozumel Ladies Breakfast to be held at Costa Brava
The Next Three Ladies Wednesday Morning Breakfast, November 8th, 15th & 22nd, will be at Costa Brava. It is located on 7 between 5 and the Melgar. The parking lot of Punta Lagosta is the best option. Costa Brava is a family owned restaurant that has been serving Cozumel for over 35 years. They have excellent traditional food and service, one of our must stop places when we visited Cozumel.
The owner Luis has a reputation of one of the hardest w orking people on the island, and one of the most giving. I have adopted children and helped many families in need over the years. Luis has had serious health issues and they need a heart surgery that they can not afford. Wife Rosa and children are holding down the fort in his absence. It is wonderful that our group can meet there to offer our support to this Cozumel Institution. We will be ordering off the menu. Hope you snowbirds join us soon. Great positive and helpful group Please come!
Our group meets every Wednesday at nine at different locations throughout the year. In addition to meeting wonderful Ladies from all over the world, the breakfast club is an excellent source of information gathering and networking. Breakfasts are informative and FUN! All Women are welcome to join us, even if you are just visiting our beautiful Island.
There is no longer a mailing list and notification of breakfast locations. You must find out by liking and following the “Ladies Wednesday Breakfast Club Cozumel” page. I will continue to post weekly breakfast information in The Cozumel Sun’s Facebook pages and website.

Aura
I enjoy and read this publication regularly. Was with Gabi and friends last night too. I wondered if you knew of anywhere I could look for listings of homes for sale by owner. I’m here this week looking, but still not finding a little place like Casa Orion from last year. Let me know please Aura.
Oh my goodness! I sure wish you would have asked before you got here! I see houses for sale by owner in the Mexican Facebook pages here and there, and sometimes spot some riding around town. HOWEVER, I really recommend you go through a licensed person that can make certain they are the owners and the title is clear, etc. You do not want to go through that again! I will keep an eye out and email you if I see something. Thank you for your support, and please keep in touch so that I do not forget to keep looking for you!
