The Cozumel Sun News and Information is Back!
Our deepest apologies! Our website totally disappeared the beginning of February. I contacted our hosting service and they were able to restore the site. Unfortunately, the only available backup was December 2018. Everything posted and updated after that date was lost.
I stepped up our posting in Facebook to ensure our readers did not miss any pertinent news and information.
and then …
Before I could update all the content and start publishing, it happened again. This time, the hosting service identified the problems and walked me through the very complicated and time consuming steps of getting back on line.
I must now go through the task of reviewing each and every page and post for accuracy and necessary update. Please bear with me as this will take some time.
Cozumel Carnaval 2019
I hope you were here and able to participate in this year’s carnival. The city did not provide a translated schedule of events in English. Due to crisis, I did not have the time to translate and publish the schedule. I posted coverage of all the events and many live videos to the Cozumel Sun Group and The Cozumel Sun Facebook Pages.
Fun in the Colonies!
This year we had three dance groups and a parody group perform in front of our Mini Super. It was great hanging out with the neighbors while we enjoyed the performances. Any business can schedule the performances, you have to know someone involved with the dance group. Some of them require payment and all of them require that you provide beverages and snacks. We had beer, water, juices, and chips for the performers.
Cozumel Carnaval 2020 Dates: for our readers that have to make travel plans and hotel reservations, next year’s Cozumel Carnaval will be held February 19 – February 26!
A Little Bit of Cozumel News
There is so much to write about, that if I try to cover it all, I will never get this post out. Let me just do a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
Cozumel Missing Diver
We have a missing diver by the name of Cameron Donaldson. He has been missing since Saturday from the North side of the island. The search is still on as far as I know. He is from Canada, experienced, and specializes in dive training for people with disabilities. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Cozumel Water Shortages
All of the island experienced problems when one day the city water just stopped. There was no notice, and some areas of the island went for many days without water.
What Happened
It was reported that the entire water tubing system is old and needs replacement; major repairs are needed. CAPA is waiting for funding before moving on with the necessary and expensive repairs. I read it might be months before the problem is completely resolved.
What we did
We are in Colonia Independencia and the water is slowly running in the evening hours. Since we are a large family, we fill buckets to ensure we have plenty of water for laundry, dishes, plants, etc.
In order to ensure our pump does not burn out, we turn it on, fill up the tinaca (water tank), and turn it off. We do not want to take a chance that the pump burns out trying to fill during a time that there is no city water.
What you can do
If you have a well, you do not have to worry about it. If you have a large water tank and a small family, use your water wisely and you should be fine.
