Municipal President Pedro Joaquín Delbouis stressed once again how critical these next few weeks will be. What we do today will affect our success or failure to keep this pandemic from growing in Cozumel.
Stay Home
He practically begged the people to stay home, follow hygiene instructions, and wear facemasks if you must go out.
Again, he reviewed that all nonessential businesses must close. In businesses that are essential, all employees must wear masks.
Stores must follow hygiene in cleaning required areas, provide hand sanitizer, and limit customer store capacity to 50% (shopping).
No in-house serving of food, in restaurants. Restaurants can only provide food for takeout or delivery.
Conflicting Information.
There has been much confusion on transit. State Governor Carlos Joaquin set forth mandates that included closing main avenue and streets, no vehicles on the roads on weekends and out of town plated vehicles could not be on the road.
That cause quite a panic. Municipal President opted NOT TO IMPLEMENT ANY OF THE above mandates due to the different characteristics of the island.
On Transit
Again, they ARE NOT implementing the state mandate of prohibiting out of town plates on the roads. You are safe to drive your vehicle in Cozumel if it does not have Quintana Roo Plates.
Plates must be current. Since Transit is closed, they are giving you a 90-day grace period to renew.
Only One Person in a vehicle, Motorcycle or car, etc. Exception, ride sharing to work two allowed from 5 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 7 pm. They will check for work credential.
Seniors to remain at home at all cost! Now Chedraui is not letting in seniors over 60 years of age!
Facemasks everyone must wear them, no entrance in stores without one. You can be stopped on the street.
Stores are limiting number of customers in at one time.
They are fining and towing vehicles without license plates.

Basic Food Distribution
There has been a lot of controversy and rumors about the Federal distribution of food. I will not repeat any of them as it is an insult to the 200 volunteers and military personnel working long hours in this heat to help Cozumel.
Information discrediting the
There is supervision. The boxes are purchased from different distributors; therefore, the contents are different. One distributor has the products divided into two boxes. Call 983-980-0552 to report problems with food distribution.
The first round of aide came from the State and Local Government. Their mission was to deliver to each home on the island. Should the family not need it, they could turn it down.
This second round is Federally funded and earmarked only for the poor neighborhoods. There are many families that live in better neighborhoods that need help also. They have no savings to draw from, no unemployment, and have not worked since March.
Pedro Arturo Ramirez del Angel
Sub-Director of Transit Municipality of Cozumel
Ramirez del Angel confirmed that the police are following the transit mandates listed above, in relations to hours of operation, non-state plates, no plates, expired plates, etc.
He added was that the non-state plated vehicles must belong to a Cozumel resident; Vehicles without plates will be towed and fined.
Director Ramirez expressed his respect and admiration for the officers and other public servants that are leaving their families daily and risking COVID-19 contamination to serve our community,

Cozumel Kitchens are Cooking!
We have nine soup kitchens! They are organized, one in each colony. Plus one lady is concentrating on helping special needs women, and one helping only the homeless with problems that fall through the crack of other aid.
I am in the process of interviewing Brenda Briceno, one of these wonderful people. Brenda and her family run a Cosina Comunitaria in Cozumel. I will be featuring her story in a special report this week. Eventually I will be featuring all these angels and give you the information on how you may help them.
But you must be patient. Since I am 70, I am not allowed to go visit the food kitchens, take pictures, etc. So, bear with me please, I will give it my best.
Those of you that live on the island can purchase gift cards at Chedraui, Soriano, the store of your choice. They purchase everywhere after pricing each item to see what stores have the best price. I can´t wait to share their story with you!
If you wish your Cozumel Sun donation to go to a Soup Kitchen, just annotate it on the memo part of your PayPal donation. I will purchase a gift card and send you a picture of the recipient.

We have been supporting the most vulnerable people on the island with basic foods but we have run out of what we had to support these people. Then later it occurred to me to offer to sell my paintings. I make these to sell in my business between $15 and $25 dollars. To continue supporting this cause I will be selling them for 80 pesos,
if you can support this noble cause, we are not doing it for profit. We have located many families who they need humble family support while theyare quarentined at home
But that needs support are hand-painted surf boards measuring more or less 20 centimeters wide by 45 long and so as not to saturate the group they can make their orders to number 9871140894.
They will be delivered to your home with all sanitary measures. We sanitized your paint and guaratee they do not have contagion.
Thanks God bless you and we hope to have your support

hello .. how can we help financially .. either with soup kitchen or giving basic foods to people who need it most. please advise. thanks, sasha
If you are on the island, you can purchase gift cards at any of the grocery stores. If you are out of the country, you may donate right here in our website. If you want to specify soup kitchen vs. basic food baskets you can do so. All donations received by the Cozumel Sun the rest of this year is going to basic food baskets, financial assistance (help with rent, utility, prescription, medical), or donation to one of the projects we feature like the soup kitchens, etc. The paypal administrative fee is the only part of your payment that does not go to the locals. Our island economy is 95% tourism, so basically 95% of the population needs help now.
