Covid-19 Update
Tidbits from Governor Carlos Joaquin July 30, and Municipal President Pedro Joaquin Delbouis on July 30 & 31. Both were repetitive in the warnings, ect.
The Curfew in Cozumel stays the same: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
The Colonies most affected in Cozumel by active cases of COVID-19 have been Centro, the San Miguel(s), San Gervasio, and Emilio Zapata.
No Liquor sales in Cozumel after five p.m. 7 days per week. (This is not a ban on alcohol in restaurants or hotels, just the take home sales.)
Next Week´s Semaforo
In the coming week of August 3 through August 9, the Southern zone of State of Quintana Roo will continue to be in the RED. The Governor stated that in one measure they were in the orange, however, in the hospital capacity, they were in the RED.
He reported that they are increasing the number of hospital beds. He insinuated that in doing so, it will change the capacity to Orange. Then the entire Southern section will be in the ORANGE.
The Northern tourist Zone that includes Cozumel will once again maintain in the Orange Semaforo.
July 31 COVID 19 Numbers
As of July 31, there are 77 active cases of COVID-19 in Cozumel. There have been 213 positive cases since March. 102 people have recovered.
August 1 COVID-19 Numbers
As of August 1, there are 91 active cases of COVID-19 in Cozumel. There have been 228 positive cases since March. 103 people have recovered.
Cozumel Doctors Speak Out
Cozumel Doctors have stepped forward with public service announcements. The commentaries describe the horrors of the illness. For instance, not being able to breathe. The invasive breathing tube procedure. How patients are isolated, alone, and lay there helpless knowing they are dying. Patients are alone without family or friend; they are not able to say goodbye.
They also describe their personal fear and stress. The danger they are in working endless hours day in and day out. Medical Personnel are sacrificing their lives for people that did not respect the directives. Doctors have abandoned their families in recent weeks. They are missing their families and fearing for their families, I imagine. Some have caught the virus, recuperated and returned to work.
If you understand Spanish, you can find these testimonials in the video section of the Facebook page of Pedro Joaquin D.
I have watched the testimonies of Dr. Alejandro Cruz, Dr. Juan Carlos Gongora, Dr. Eduardo Garcia Magaña, and Dr. Mario Alberto Lozano Morales. They are frightening! Anyone that does not listen after watching any one of these videos is insane.

How you Can Help Cozumel
UPDATE August 5, 2020:
I am causing confusion when addressing the number of meals that the community kitchens are serving. When I mention they serve approximately 100 people, I am speaking of an approximate number of people that physically come to the community kitchen. The number of meals each person leaves with can vary between 4 up to eight meals each, depending on the number of people in their household. It can also fluctuate between 100 to 125 or 130 people daily.
Because of social distancing, only one person can come per household. None can be seniors or other vulnerable population. The seniors and others that are considered vulnerable that are unable to come in person, have their meals delivered. I am not counting them either.
In addition to the cost of the food, cooking supplies, we have the cost of cooking gas, wood, and medicine and medical supplies.
I will try to do a more indebt report of the now expanding number of community kitchens, thanks to all of you wonderful readers lending a hand! Keep the donations coming please!
ATTENTION THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF FOOD AND SUPPLIES THIS WEEK! I will be more specific at a later time, I wanted to get the word out that donations are needed for food and cooking gas, ASAP!
