Mexican Independence Day September 16, 2021
Mexican Independence Day celebrates the beginning of Mexico’s fight for sovereignty. Expect celebrations all over the island on September 16. Banks, schools, and businesses will be closed. Expect activities in the parks and firework display.
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic priest, launched the Mexican War of Independence with the issuing of his Grito de Dolores, or “Cry of Dolores.” The revolutionary tract, so named because it was publicly read by Hidalgo in the town of Dolores, called for the end of 300 years of Spanish rule in Mexico.

Adults ages 18 to 29 received their second Pfizer vaccine this week. Next week adults ages 30 to 39 will receive their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
This will mark the completion of vaccines administered to all adults ages 18 and up in Cozumel. There has been no information related to vaccines for children ages 12 to 17, nor related to booster shots.

Cozumel Schools Resume
Cozumel children returned to schools on-line on August 30th. It is my understanding that teachers are conferring with parents to decide whether to continue online or return to the classrooms in October.
On May 18, all Cozumel education personnel received vaccines. The vaccine called CANSINO, a one-time application was made available to all school employees. School administrators, teachers, maintenance and support personnel alike were vaccinated.
