Cozumel Celebrates Independence Day- Mexican FlagCozumel Celebrates Mexican Independence Day 2013

In Cozumel the Mexican Independence day celebration commenced  Friday September 6th with the lighting of the decorative lights along the waterfront and a performance by “Mariachi de la Direcion de Cultura.” Quintana Roo Park is alive with carnival, rides,  games, all sorts of traditional food vendors, as well as daily  performances. If you have been there this week, you probably noticed the peaceful sit-in by the public school teachers and employees under tents in the middle of the park. The public school employees will be suspending their sit-in during the main event that take place the evening of the 15th and followed by dancing into the wee hours of Mexican Independence Day, September, 16th. There will be high security at Quintana Roo on the 15th.  Coolers, motorcycle helmets, alcohol, etc. are not permitted in the park. Security details will be performing searches. DO NOT BE ALARMED, this is for the good of all in attendance, and  is  typical of any city in the world in preparation for gatherings of large crowds. I have provided a semi-translated schedule of activities for your use:
