CAM laboral mediaMedia Room Opens in Cozumel Cam Laboral School

The Rotary Club of Greenville Texas donated furniture and equipment to the CAM Laboral School through the Rotary Club Cozumel that will benefit 57 students. This media room will allow students with disabilities attending the CAM Laboral to use modern technology and to develop their skills.

At a ceremony, held last week, the President of DIF Cozumel, Mrs. Gina Ruiz de Marrufo, thanked the non-government Organization for their generosity. She was accompanied by the Secretary of Education and Culture of the State (SEyC), José Alberto Alonso Ovando; Presidents of the Rotary Club of Greenville, Texas, District 5810 and Rotary Club Cozumel, Troy Brakefiel and Jose Alvarez Sandoval, among others.

The donation made by the Rotary Club to CAM Laboral consists of nine computers, two printers nine desktops, two air conditioners, a projector and screen, with an approximate value of $ 33,000.

The people of Cozumel are invited to participate in the competition to design a logo for the new Cozumel Planetarium. At a press conference on January 22nd, the Municipal Government through the Technical Secretariat announced in detail the rules of the competition.

At City Hall, the Secretary of the City, Ricardo Espinosa Freyre, presented to the different media the notice issued by the State Government, through the Quintanarroense Council of Science and Technology (COQCYT),  the National Council Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the Municipal Government for involving students, designers and creators of the municipality or the state.

He explained that the logo should correspond to the proposed complex graphic identity of Science, Technology and Culture “Planetarium Ch’an Ka’an” (See Heaven) name, whose inauguration is scheduled for March.

The official explained the proposed graphic design must be characteristic, primitive, unpublished and include various elements such as the name chosen by the Cozumeleños “Ch’an Ka’an.” Concept submitted in a sealed envelope with a pseudonym.

He said that those interested should submit a second sealed envelope with a label on the back containing the pseudonym chosen, the registration form and letter of transfer of rights of use and reproduction COQCYT. See the full terms of the contest at www.planetariodecozumel.com.

He stressed that the design proposals may be submitted from this date until February 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the offices of the Technical Secretariat at:

–  The Palacio Municipal de Cozumel.

– The Planetarium which is located Ka’Yok’ at Av. Palenque S / N, SM 21 M05 Lt1 in Cancún.

– COQCYT office in Av. Insurgentes S / N, colony constituents in the city of Chetumal.

The Secretary of the City Council said the results will be published on February 28th in the official website of Cozumel and Planetarium www.coqcyt.gob.mx. The awards consist of a Mac book Pro 13 inch computer for  First place; one mini I pad 3 with  128 GB capacity for Second place, and for Third place, a mini I pad 3 with 64GB capacity.

For its part, the Chronicler of the island, Velio Vivas Valdés congratulated the Mayor, Fredy Martin Marrufo, on his initiative to have the people of Cozumel through the contest to choose the name and design the logo.

In order to provide development alternatives for the inmates of the Cozumel Prison, the Municipal Government, through the Department of Economic Development, held a rapprochement with the prison authorities to seek options to support the social reintegration of the prison population.

jail craft 3Cota Manuel Becerra, head of the Municipal Agency, said one way of supporting prisoners is to make an effort to market the handicrafts they make. He met with Gustavo Hernan Gomez Canul, Director of the Municipal Jail, to initiate the planning.

The pieces that are made in the prison are traditional hammocks, woven hats, wooden crafts, belts, bracelets, necklaces, woven bags, among others. Becerra noted that these domestic manufactured objects and crafts could be marketed abroad, to help support the prisoners and their families.

Cota Becerra said at the meeting a proposal was discussed about the feasibility of granting a space in “Plaza del Sol” to market their products.  The Director of Economic Development asked them to devise a logo, a brand name.

“Support for professionals is critical to achieve proper development in society, especially young people who are eager to put into practice the knowledge acquired,” said Edwin Argüelles González, Secretary General City Council, representing the Mayor, Fredy Martin Marrufo, during the inauguration of  the “Asociación de Profesionistas Capítulo Cozumel” on January 24th.

During the event, which was attended by Joaquín Oliva Alamilla, Chairman of the Board of Architects of Quintana Roo, the city official said that one of the priorities of the Mayor is to support civil groups and partnerships that benefit Cozumel.

He congratulated the men and women and added that each area of expertise is critical to the development of the island, each of their careers effect a work useful to the community.
