In Mexican cuisine, Pico de Gallo, also called Salsa Fresca, is made from chopped Tomato, Onion, Cilantro leaves, fresh Serrano Pepper, Salt, and Lime Juice. Other ingredients, such as Shrimp or Avocado, are also sometimes added. If you do not have a Serrano Pepper available, you can substitute a Jalapeño Pepper.
Pico de Gallo is served with chips and as a topping for tacos and other Mexican Dishes.
1 medium tomato, diced
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 fresh Serrano pepper, seeded …
2 sprigs fresh cilantro, finely chopped
1 green onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Freshly squeezed Lime Juice
In a medium bowl, combine tomato, onion, Serrano pepper (to taste,) cilantro and green onion. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir until evenly distributed. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. When you are ready to serve, add the Lime Juice.
