Aurita’s Cozumel Family

Aurita’s Cozumel Corner

Great news, Cozumel Transcaribe and Barcos Mexico Announce that Prices have not and will not Increase! I anticipate that this is happening because of the warnings posted by the United States and Canada banning riding the Ferry in Playa del Carmen, and the Cruise ships keeping their customers in Cozumel.

Greater News! Our neighbor Fireman that became widowed three months ago and left with daughters ages 5 and 12 to care for have been blessed with assistance from one of our readers. A wonderful Canadian family that visits Cozumel has taken on the responsibility of providing financial assistance for the 12-year old’s medical needs. God Bless you the Wright Family!

Once again, I want to remind everyone it is election time in Cozumel, the newspaper articles are ugly accusatory and constant. There is no accountability of the press and it is difficult to know what is true from election rhetoric.

I repeat, home Robberies and Petty crime seem to be on the rise, whether related to ousting the current government in the next elections or not, it is real. As I have always said, visit the Cozumel Humane Society and adopt a dog if you do not already have one at home for your home security. The neighborhood Crime watches seem to be a success and neighbors are cooperating in watching out for each other, reporting suspicious activities, and even resulting in some arrests.

Along with neighborhood watch groups we have neighborhood watch postings of crime as they are reported in the media is scaring many people; I want to remind everyone that media here goes for the drama.

Example:

I was horrified to read about a cadaver that was found in the jungle naked, with his genitals mutilated. CSI and Criminal Mind fan that I am, my mind immediately jumped to now we have a serial killer. sexual pervert, a mad person in Cozumel.  The man was an alcoholic and drug user that apparently had a heart attack and his body was munched on by the wild life.

There was another posting about a neighbor that was physically attacked by a group of people. It turned out to be a family feud, there was a parent dying in the hospital and the person being slapped around by female family members was taking advantage of the sick person’s assets. I probably would have slapped him also!

Moral of the story, don’t believe everything you read, there is a lot of exaggeration and there are two sides to the story. DON’T SPREAD PANIC!

Again, leave your handbags and backpacks at home! The motorcycle bandits that grab ahold of hand bags and backpacks and drive off leaving people injured from being dragged and knocked down are still around. Do not wear flashy jewelry, do not roam the streets after dark alone, USE COMON SENSE.  Cozumel is a safe place to visit and live. Hopefully something will happen soon with the lack of sufficient law enforcement to get these delinquents off our beautiful streets. A handful of bad apples on the island are threatening to ruin Cozumel’s good name.

Thank you to everyone that have continued expressed their well wishes for our family’s recovery and come over to lend a helping hand, we love you! We are all slowly getting better, it will take a while for things to get back to normal.
