The Cozumel Sun News April 2, 2019

This is a revised publication, to add the second vehicle Ferry, Ultramar. I had totally forgotten the long overdue addition of a second cargo company in Cozumel.

The monopoly of having one carrier plagued this service for years. Attempts to add a second company in the past met with strong opposition, including the sabotage of competition vessels.

Oops! Mea Culpa!

My apologies for the omission of the second company. Our thanks to the reader that pointed out my error!

Please help me keep the information in the Cozumel Sun current by sharing changes and revisions with us.

This is the final edition of a three-part series on Cozumel Ferries. The information on the Cozumel vehicle Ferries, Transcaribe and Ultramar.

Tips on the Vehicle Ferry

Keep in Mind:

If you are driving to the mainland keep in mind that this ferry is very much affected by weather conditions. Extremely strong winds make it impossible to safely dock the vessel.

Cozumel’s main industry is tourism. Everything that you see in grocery and department stores come from the mainland via Trucks. Weather delays will result in a long line of these commercial vehicles waiting to get across the channel.

Get There Early:

It is first come first serve basis! Two working new ferries, makes it easier to get across the channel these days.

My family used to arrive two hours ahead of time. It is imperative that we start our drive in the mainland as early as possible, as we only drive in the daytime. There is an air-conditioned terminal on the premises with bathrooms, snacks and television.

Holiday Rates:

There are Holiday discounts available for cars only. Rates and times are subject to change without prior notice.

We care about you! ?✨
