Cozumel Paint and Run

The Cozumel Paint & Run race will take place again on February 24th. This year 100 places will be donated to people with special abilities. This is double the number of last year.

The Race is on Melgar

The race will take place on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue for 5 kilometers.  While each participant is approaching the goal, the traditional colorful powders will be released. There is no winner, it is simply a race in which everyone has the opportunity to participate, there is no age limit.

Adding Flavors!

Organizer Carlos Cabrera specified that each kilometer is associated with a different color, and this year each color will be a different flavor. The colored powders are dispersed in the air at the runners as they pass the corridors.

The Cost:

He invited citizens to join this race. The cost per participant is $280 pesos. The money will be used for the purchase of each competitor’s personal kit, the powder, and the balance donated to DIF social programs.

You will Get:

The kit consists of a shirt, glasses, a participation certificate, and hydration. At the end of the race the runners will be able to participate in raffles that the sponsors will organize.

About the founder of Meetup Cozumel Cindy Trautwein

I have known Cindy since we arrived in Cozumel in 2006. I believe she was working in real estate back then, in later years she was working for an all-inclusive on the island and recently finally started working for herself in what I believe is the perfect job for her, Flip Concierge and Tours Cozumel.

She is a Gem!

Cindy is a one-woman phenomenon that promotes Cozumel businesses and attractions as she visits them. She does this FREE of CHARGE. Cindy is a master at Networking. She is an invaluable asset that goes unrewarded on this island.

Meetup Cozumel is an example of how she helps bring the community and businesses together on the island. She is wealth of information for newcomers and visitors. If she does not know the answer she will find out for them. Again, FREE OF CHARGE.

Flip Concierge and Tours Cozumel

I am very happy that she is succeeding in her business, Flip Concierge and Tours. It is time that she is financially rewarded for her hard work. I do not know where she gets the energy from to be everywhere it seems daily! She reports live on Facebook, posts endlessly on new places to go and things to do. I get tired just keeping up with her on Facebook.

Haters out there, give it a break! Go out and do something to give back to this community. Count your blessings and help your fellow man. Staying busy you will not have the time to spread malicious rumors about others! As long as I am venting, I was shaking my 70-year-old booty right along with J-Lo and Shakira, it’s part of my culture!

Our Busy WeeK

Days after publishing my meeting with Voices of Hope for Aphasia, I was contacted and asked if Charles and I wanted to meet more people with Aphasia. We said yes, and met another wonderful group of cruisers from ARC (Aphasia Recovery Connection).

What is ARC

The Aphasia Recovery Connection (ARC), an award-winning nonprofit organization, that has a mission to help end the isolation that aphasia brings.  ARC was started by Carol Dow Richards and her son David Dow.

Our Luncheon

ARC Cruise January 2020

We had the honor of meeting Carol Dow Richards, her son David Dow and a group of some 17 others that are victims of stroke, their caregivers, family members, medical support staff, and interns.

It was another wonderful, emotional, and inspirational luncheon this time at Pancho’s Back Yard. We have been so blessed; I cannot thank these wonderful people enough for touching our lives as they have!

Carol and David

The ARC Facebook Group

ARC’s private Facebook group has over 9,000 members from around the world. Group members can meet others with Aphasia and their caregivers and families, help new group friends stay in touch, learn the latest information about aphasia, and help each other through difficult times. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Aphasia.Recovery.Connection/

The ARC Website

The ARC website is www.aphasiarecoveryconnection.net. You will find the links and participation information on video conferencing, Aphasia University Boot Camp, Aphasia Cruises, and the ARC Resource Library.

Amy & Dave Walters

I received an autographed copy of David Dow’s, book, “Brain Attack”, an inspirational masterpiece of David’s experience after multiple strokes at the young age of 10. I was gifted another T-shirt, by a wonderful couple from California, Amy and Dave Walters.

Our Active Week

What a roller coaster ride this past week has been! I celebrated my 70th birthday on the first, our 19th wedding anniversary on the 5th, and many outings in between!

Our Cozumel Family

Our daughter Gerilynn treated the entire family of 10 to dinner at Jeannie’s Waffle to celebrate my 70th birthday on the first.

Palmeras was Excellent

On February 5th, our 19th wedding anniversary, we snuck away from home. On our way to dinner at Palmeras, we stopped at Jeannie’s, Taco Tequila, and Wet Wendy’s.

The steak and Lobster at Palmeras was excellent, the service five star as always.

Note: Palmeras is taking reservation for Carnaval Parade Nights. Our family is there every year for the last Parade, excellent view!

Woody’s was Rocking

After dinner were drawn to Woodys by the live Rock and Roll music. Their bathroom was not accessible so we were forced, LOL, to go to Wet Wendy’s again for a night cap.

Wet Wendy’s was smoking!

Wet Wendy’s was packed and it was Salsa night. I never knew our locals were such talented dancers! The dance floor was packed; it was like watching dirty dancing live! The cherry on top was finding my friend Sherry Nixon there. We stayed out until after midnight!

Our Many Thanks!

We were treated like gold on this special night everywhere we went. Special thanks to the wonderful people at Palmeras and Wet Wendy’s for making our anniversary memorable!

Thank you to the many well wishers on Facebook on both my birthday and our anniversary. Your wonderful messages and congratulations warmed our hearts and made our day!

We are Coming Out!

This past week, we have been going out for a little while almost daily. Excitement is building as next month our friends Wendy and Joe Starr will be arriving and we will have our annual Buccanos at Night joint missed Birthdays and Anniversary Celebration. Yes, you guessed it! We have signed on for the Alaska August 2020 cruise and working on the Panama Canal Cruise in January of 2021.

Looking for the perfect meal? Try our crispy lobster pops topped with xcatic muse, plum pico and balsamic reduction! MIND BLOWING!
Buccanos at Nighthttps://www.thecozumelsun.com/cozumel-sun-sponsors/buccanos-at-night/

I credit meeting The Voices of Hope for Aphasia and the ARC group for giving Charlie and I a wakeup call. The fact that I just turned 70 and Charlie is soon to follow also brought to mind the question of “just how long do I think we have to have some fun ourselves?”

Not Every Place is Accessible!

The places we go to are limited, based on accessibility. It is not just getting the wheelchairs in there, Charles has to be able to get his chair into the bathroom. It would be nice to have a list of accessible places in The Cozumel Sun.

The chair for me is just a mode of transportation. I am able to walk reasonable distances without a problem. However, distance is an issue, as our family car has been out of commission for six months. Talk about Buccanos withdrawals!

Come Meet Us!

We will be joining Meet Up Cozumel whenever we can. I will make an attempt to attend lady’s breakfasts again! Please let us know of any places we can go that are accessible, we want to widen our horizons! When you see us out and about, say hi! Have a blessed week everyone!
