Governor Carlos Joaquin announced ¨to protect the health of our children, youth, and teachers, we have decided that this school year will end on July 17 with the distance modality. We will not return to school.

The color codes are based on a mathematical calculation of COVID-19 infections, deaths, and recuperations.

Red

Only Essential Operations will open. This includes mining, construction, & fabrication of transportation equipment. All must follow COVID*19 safety precaution guidelines.

Orange

The operation of essential activities and a very reduced nonessential number of operations allowed. All must follow COVID*19 safety precaution guidelines. New certification for non-essential businesses must be met. Have maximum care of vulnerable employees.

Yellow

Start of activities in public places as well as economic activities. Must follow COVID*19 safety precaution guidelines. Non-essential businesses must meet new certification requierements.

Green

New Normal: Reactivation of scholastic, social, and economic activities. All must follow COVID*19 safety precaution guidelines.

The United States & Canada extend Travel Restrictions
May 19, 2020

The United States and Canada announced an extension of the temporary travel restrictions through June 22, 2020. Under these guidelines, foreign travelers, cannot enter the United States or Canada until that date, with the exception of essential travel.

The Department of Homeland Security extended border closures  to curb COVID-19 infections.

Chad Wolf, the acting Secretary of Homeland Security, announced Tuesday that the U.S.-Canada and U.S.-Mexico  land border closure is extended until June 22.

U.S. passport holders can return home although the Uniited States Borders are closed.

Cozumel colonies will be fumigated over the new few weeks. This week they will be fumigating Monday through Saturday. They will be using Three vehicles. Their work hours are between three thirty and eight at night fumigate the Colonies.

Do not close your windows and doors! It is important that the inside of your home and property is fumigated also.

Daily Check

Check everywhere for sitting water, something as small as a bottle cap with sitting water can start breeding mosquitos.

Drivers License renewal is open by appointment only. The interviews are held between 8 am and 2 pm.

Call 987-872-0092 and make an appointment to get your drivers license renewed, Or call or message WhatsApp 987-564-7545 between three and six Monday through Friday for an appointment. This week the telephone line has been saturated with calls.

COVID-19 – Seven Mandates Revisited
  1. The Current Curfew is from 7 pm until 5am.
  2. One person per vehicle; no vehicles without plates.
  3. Face Masks are mandatory
  4. No reunions or Events
  5. All public places closed, beaches, parks, etc.
  6. Only essential businesses open, restaurants can only offer takeout or delivery.
  7. Maintain the safe distance of two meters.
Exercising

In an interview the Municipal President stated people could exercise outdoors. We assume bicycles are allowed along with walking and jogging.  (

You must use face masks, use your disinfectant gel, keep the safe distancing, do not go in groups, etc. If you are bicycling, stay in a safe area, the farther you venture, the more the risk of contamination. The other side of the island is off limits.

Walking your Dogs

The President stated that you can take your dogs out for their call of nature. You must pick up after them. Only one person should be walking them, you must wear masks, maintain social distancing, no groups of people, etc. Try to stay as near to your home as possible.

The numbers of infected people that we report is really a week old. If you get the virus today you will not show symptoms for up to five days. Severe effects of COVID-19 , will appear approximately seven days after you were exposed.

Both Community Kitchens have Mexican PayPal accounts. Paypal Mexico has huge fees. This is the reason that they opt to have donations made to The Cozumel Sun´s United States PayPal account with the lesser fees.

The Cozumel Sun Community Projects & Support

The Cozumel Sun has delivered $15,000 pesos in food boxes to the community during this crisis. In addition, we have supported individuals with emergency funds and prescriptions! Through our US PayPal account, we receive money for Brenda´s Community Kitchen, Jorge´s Community Kitchen, and individuals that are sponsored for food, medicine, or medical needs. We pay for the PayPal fees and the IVA tax on those donations.  All donations to The Cozumel Sun this year will go to COVID-19 related causes.

The couple of boxes from the Government that only some people received are not doing it! Many are once again out of the food and a number of colonies have yet to receive government help.

How You Can Help:

If you are in Cozumel, a supermarket gift card, food, or cash donation. If you are out of Cozumel, you may designate a donation to Brenda´s or Jorge´s Community Kitchen in the Cozumel Sun PayPal account. The Cozumel Sun will cover the Paypal Charges and 16% IVA taxes.

You can designate the donation to support the ¨Cozumel Sun´s Comunity Projects and Support¨. Your donation may yet go to one of the kitchens anyway, if the kitchens need food, or one of their client needs medication, etc.

Record Keeping

The recipient and the donor will receive signed copies paypal donation and receipts. Donor will receive a picture of the transaction and project when posible.You may make a general donation to be distributed as needed or specify for Jorge´s or Brenda´s Community Kitchen.
