State COVID-19 Traffic Light February 15 – 21

The Northern and Southern sections of Quintana Roo are currently in the ORANGE Traffic Light. It has been officially designated to continue in Orange for the next week of February 15 through the 21.

News February 13, 2021

Under the ORANGE Traffic Light, establishments must return to 30% occupancy. In addition, schools, bars, cantinas, night clubs, discotheques, convention centers, etc. must remain closed. However, to the best of my knowledge Cozumel will continue to function as if it is in the Yellow Traffic Light.

Equiptment Wanted / Missing!

Equiptment Wanted / Missing!

We loaned out our nebulizer machine without recording who borrowed it. Consequently, we have never seen it again. The nebulizer was valuable to the community. Locals cannot afford to purchase their own machine and must go to the hospital or doctor’s office for nebulizing treatments. You can see how difficult this would be if you need treatments twice per day for an extended period. The nebulizer has been missing for well over a year, maybe two.

News February 13, 2021
Equiptment Wanted / Missing!

Last year we loaned out our Crutches. Once again, a family member did not write down who borrowed them, and they have disappeared. These crutches have been extremely useful to the community. The crutches seemed to always be on loan when we had them because of senior falls and motorcycle accidents.

It breaks my heart to tell people we no longer have the nebulizer nor the crutches when asked! If you happen to know were our items are or can help replace them, we would appreciate your assistance!

Other Medical Supplies

We have an assortment of braces, medical support hose, and miscellaneous medication and supplies in our trusty family locker. Always check with us. Once a year we clean house and donate everything on hand to DIF or another agency to distribute. However, we quickly start accumulating donations and items that our own large extended family collects.

We function ON DONATIONS ONLY. Please lend your support. Help us continue to serve the people of Cozumel. During the Pandemic, our resources have been extended to the Community Kitchens that are feeding hundreds in Cozumel.

Papeleria Novedades Mama Lilly

Cozumel News February 13 Continued
History

Papeleria and Novedades Mama Lilly was started by the Cozumel Sun to assist a local family to become self-sufficient. The store is now owned and operated by the Martinez family. This wonderful small business is experiencing financial difficulties like others on the island.

The Papeleria provides income for the family of four.  It is operated by father Bartolo, Mom Gelmy and son Julian. Julian started college courses this year. Even nine-year-old Gigi can be found trying to assist from time to time.

Services

The Papeleria provides affordable school supplies, internet access, and grants to children in the immediate community. Only blocks from IMSS hospital and Clinic, it does a decent business of making copies. However, copies and printing alone cannot keep the doors open. The only real profit comes from inventory sales.

Pandemic Affect

The store was closed for months due to the pandemic. However, they continued making copies and printing in a safe manner to assist the immediate neighborhood.  Neighborhood COVID deaths and other medical transactions required copies. As you know school has continue via the internet and the children have assignments requiring printing, copies, and internet access.

Inventory

Slowly the inventory of paper and supplies dwindled. Unlike previous years, there has been no funds available to restock inventory, profits went for household necessities copier paper and toner.

Business is slowly coming around but with a fast-depleting inventory and shortage of some supplies, it will be difficult to recover. It is imperative that they find funds to restock to remain open.

Please consider contributing to Papeleria Mama Lilly through the Cozumel Sun.
