Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo accepting winning certification

On Sunday June 6th, the people of Cozumel elected Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo to be the new Municipal President. She is the representative of an alliance made up of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), Labor Party (PT), National Regeneration Movement (Morena) and Social Authentic Movement (MAS).

The candidate prevailed over current Municipal President Pedro Oscar Joaquin Delbouis, representing a coalition formed by The National Action Party (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and Trust for Quintana Roo.

Juanita Alonso is Cozumeleñan, a mother, a wife and a professional with 27 years of experience in public service. We congratulate Mrs. Alonso on the victory and wish her a successful and prosperous term for the betterment of Cozumel and its wonderful people!

Cozumel Now Radio in English!

COZUMEL NOW on SOL Stereo 89.9

Sol Stereo has created a new program in English Called COZUMEL NOW, that will reach tourist, expats, and locals not only throughout the Yucatan Peninsula but worldwide. Tune in on Sol 89.9 radio or Facebook, Tunin.com, or onlineradiobox.com. The program will be hosted by an expat Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m starting July 1.

Cozumel Now will provide current information on upcoming events, local information, guide people on what to do and where to go on the island as well as promote local businesses. During the program they will be speaking directly with business owners and local officials and of course, playing the best Classic Rock music throughout.

This will be a great networking addition to people that live on the island, are thinking of moving to the island, or planning a trip to Cozumel. Business owners, there are limited advertising spots available in this program at a very reasonable cost! Contact The Cozumel Sun for more information.

Over the past fifteen years we have done it all with the help our readers and sponsors. We have provided drop in Meals, Groceries, Medical Emergencies, Medicine, Clothing, School Supplies, Tuitions, Testing Fees, Shelter Repairs, Business Training and Start-Up, Christmas & Three Kings Day Gifts for children. In the past two months we have been feeding 11 – 13 people daily in our household alone.

Medical Equipment Available

We have a loaner wheelchair, Crutches, nebulizer, and a portable bedside toilet. Walkers and canes are always in demand as we give them away. If anyone has some extras around the house, feel free to drop them off to us. We donate the walkers and canes we receive to the elderly. NOTE: Our Crutches are currently out on loan!

Other Medical Supplies

We have an assortment of braces, medical support hose, and miscellaneous medication and supplies in our trusty family locker. Always check with us. Once a year we clean house and donate everything on hand to DIF or another agency to distribute. However, we quickly start accumulating donations and items that our own large extended family collects.

We function ON DONATIONS ONLY. Please lend your support. Help us continue to serve the people of Cozumel. During the Pandemic, our resources have been extended to the Community Kitchens that are feeding hundreds in Cozumel.

Welcome to the Cozumel Sun! Since 2006, TCS website, Facebook Group, and Facebook page has provided the latest news and information from Cozumel, Mexico. There are no paid staff. TCS is non-profit and non-government funded. Donations help pay for website expenses, taxes, and fees. Donations support our community assistance program. TCS Community Assistance TCS provides assistance to local individuals and families with emergency food, medical expenses and medication. We help with school related expenses for children in the immediate neighborhood (Colonia Independencia). We have a ""drop in" meal policy, we feed the hungry no questions asked.
