An announcement came out this week that eligible children ages 12 to 17 can now register for the COVID Vaccine. However, unlike their adult counterpart, the children must have a special need in order to qualify.

Welcome to El Cedral

By Kristine Groff

El Cedral

Cortes came in 1519 and virtually rubbed out the Mayan population. Pirates reigned from 1660 to 1730.

El Cedral

A festival is held every year in May celebrating the first families who “returned” to Cozumel Island, El Cedral, in 1847 fleeing the mainland and the war of the castes.

El Cedral

San Miguel de Cozumel was established 2 years later. September 30 was San Miguel Day. No celebration this year. I’m hoping next May we will have a wonderful week of celebration in El Cedral.

I took pictures of houses with crosses for this morning’s walk.

Proof of Vaccination Certificate

Vaccination Certificate Resized to 5 x 7 and laminated

If you received your COVID Vaccine in Cozumel, or anywhere in Mexico. Please download your covid vaccination certificate at https://cvcovid.salud.gob.mx/.

For this to be on file, you must have a registered at https://mivacuna.salud.gob.mx.

The official certificate is bilingual and has a barcode. The PDF file prints out letter size. However, I have figured out how to print it out a tad larger than passport size, so it fits nicely with your travel documents. I also laminate it.

If you are interested, it is one of the services that I offer at the store at the cost of $50.00 pesos.

If you have your certificate, you can bring it in to me. Or you may send me your CURP number, and I will solicit it for you. The Government will send the Vaccination certificate in PDF form to your registered email. You may then forward it to me to print out, resize and laminate for you.

Aurita’s Cozumel Corner

I was looking forward to writing that except for one lingering symptom of my COVID ordeal, I was making progress. My energy had returned!  I was eating whatever was on the family menu as my taste buds were normal. I was so happy to be able to be myself again!

Then wham, two days ago I sat down to write the Cozumel Sun and the room started spinning. I tried to eat, and everything tasted rotten. I spent the day in bed feeling miserable. Today. I slept until four thirty in the afternoon. It is taking everything in my power to write despite sleeping all night and day. I pray that I can get this issue out tomorrow and that my relapse will be short-lived.

The Cozumel Sun Book Exchange & Store

The Book Exchange Welcoming Committee Early one morning. Hey all I see is a pigeon!

The book exchange continues to be popular. Almost every day someone stops by the store. People are still dropping off new books. Many are already regulars, dropping off a book or two and exchanging for new ones to read.

There are two or three families using the puzzle exchange. They are going to run out though, as we only have six or so in stock.

Donations

Bless you that have donated and gone out of your way to purchase something from the store.  Thank you so much!! Somedays that donation or purchase is the only income we receive all day! We have had a few no customer days and many days were printing and copying brought in a mere few pesos. There is no way we could keep the store open if we were paying rent somewhere.

Economy Still an Issue

Don´t Worry Guys, someone will show up!

Although the cruise ships are trickling in, many people are still on employed and the priority is survival. Please keep this in mind and continue to donate to the Community Kitchens please!

School Supplies

Online schools are functioning with their textbooks that were distributed in the last few weeks are notebooks. The only printing needs are the weekly or daily assignments that generate one- or two-pesos max.

There have been no art projects, crafts, that normally require the kids to come in for supplies such as cardboard, paints, brushes, glue, Planillas, etc.

Merchandize Overstock

Advertising on Facebook of Clearance Sales

On Sale both for only $ 199

The clearance sales have on the most part been unsuccessful. I believe I currently have around fifteen ads out on Facebook. Only one generated a sale of $100 pesos and we had to deliver it. It is disheartening! It took the better part of a week to write the ads, take the pictures, price the items etc. I hope to review them and maybe lower the prices.

The Old Maytag Repairman Ads

Most of the time I feel like the Maytag repairman. Anyone my age will remember the commercials of a lonely repairman sitting there all day with nothing to do because the Maytag washers never broke down! The book Exchange is practically the only traffic the store has had.

Door Closed

If you see the door closed but the gate open, we are in there! It might be closed because I am working at my desk and need the air-conditioning. I get sick in extreme heat.

We also close the door for security reasons if one of us is not in there. (Someone could easily get in by cutting the screen). We are attending to other duties around the house like cleaning and laundry or grabbing something to eat.

We do not close in the middle of the day for a few hours like most local businesses. Please ring the bell or call out to us in the front door.

Because of the lack of business, I am cutting back the hours this week. I might be forced to do it again if things do not pick up.

New Store Hours

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sundays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Book Exchange Wish List

Children’s books, preferably bilingual, but we will take any and more Jig Saw puzzles!
