Those of you not living in Mexico might want to consider scheduling your vacation time around this holiday. Cozumel is finally highlighting one of the most beautiful traditions guaranteed to leave you in awe and lift you spiritually.
Cozumel´s First Annual Day of the Dead Festival Thursday October 28
Lighting of Candles and Soul Parade 7:00 p.m.
There will be a lighting of candles ceremony and parade tonight to kick off Cozumel´s first Day of the Dead Festival.
You can Participate
If you wish to participate, the meeting is the San Miguel Cemetery on Calle 9 Bis. At 7 p.m. The dress code is white. The festival will provide candles, or you can bring your own. You may bring a photograph of loved one who has passed. Excellent opportunity to honor relatives that died during COVID without traditional funerals. However, your photographs can be of anyone in your family that has passed.
You can observe
There will be a procession from the cemetery to Benito Juarez Park downtown. The procession will reach the park in part by way of Melgar Avenue.

Entertainment includes a dance group, day of the dead monologue and music.

Culinary show, with sale and free tasting scheduled. 16 restaurant stands of the CULINARY CULTURAL COUNCIL OF COZUMEL in conjunction with CANIRAC, will make a “culinary tour” to the most enigmatic dishes of the Day of the Dead from 16 states of our Mexican Republic, bringing to Cozumel the culinary culture of various states.

I am assuming this is at Benito Juarez and will include the children´s candy exchange. UPDATE: Isla Cozumel MX just responded to my question about the candy exchange. They wrote:¨As an activity for the day of the dead event there will be no exchanges of candies, but there will be civil associations giving sweets for children.¨
