Cozumel Carnaval 2023
People are already inquiring if there will be a Carnaval in 2023 and what the dates are. I have contacted the powers in charge, and they have provided limited information. Yes, there will be a Cozumel Carnaval 2023. The tentative period will be the last week in February through the first week in March. However, set dates will not be available until late November or December.
The Cozumel Sun News Updates
I am back! Well, somewhat! My health has not been the best the last two years. I suffered long term Covid symptoms that affected my taste and stomach. The medicines kept piling on while I ate less and less. A few months ago, I started losing weight and experiencing extremely low energy level. I was happy at first for the loss of weight, until it kept lowering. The low energy, I contributed to my age. When I could not get the energy to write a news edition, I figured, oh, I have finally burnt myself out.
A surprise Discovery
Thank heavens, I decided it was time to take out the screws, and metal plate in my ankle. At my age it required a complete battery of laboratory tests. The results in May sent my doctor into a panic. My hemoglobin level was almost to the point of requiring a transfusion. I was anemic (chronic). By the time these results were in, I could barely move. I was bleeding internally caused by the extended use of medications on an empty stomach and surprise, stress!
On the Mend
The doctors removed most of my medications, I received iron injections and supplements. I have been on a medication that I must take one hour before I eat. Eating brought burning and pain to my stomach even with the medication. It was hard to force down meals on a regular basis at first. My energy is slowly returning, and I have had three pain free days in a row! I am sure I have finally turned the corner!
Although I have not published, I have posted everything and anything of importance in The Cozumel Sun Facebook Group. As you will read in this issue, the book exchange, store, and our community assistance continued during this period. Thank you all for your patience and support during this challenging time.
Medication Donations a Success!
Thanks to our patrons we have had medicine to donate to the free clinic each and every month. Thank you so much. A few weeks ago I had a local come to my home in search of insulin. The free clinic did not have any and I was completely out of cash. I had helped this family in past years by sharing my late husband’s insulin. It broke my heart to be unable to help them. I was ill at the time and did not think to get their name and number until afterf they left. (More guilt!). This is a reminder that your donated medication can save a life.
Thank You Montgomery Family!
We are extremely grateful to the Montgomery family for entrusting us to print and bind their family cookbook! Their contribution helped keep our doors open for business, the book exchange, and our community assistance.
