Book Exchange News

The above picture represents a giant stack of donated books that took me a week to sort through. Not pictured are two JUMBO size trash bags of books sent to recycling as they were too yellowed, mildewed, and torn to use.

Book Exchange News

The most efficient way to integrate this many books was to reorganize the entire library. I emptied a shelf on the far right of the room and started the alphabet there.

Cozumel Public Library

As I went, I pulled any duplicate books and set them aside for the Cozumel Library. Due to space issues, I decided to also send all magazines, tour books, how to books, and text books to the Cozumel Public Library.

About two days into the project I realised that the book exchange has become a dump site for many damaged books, and I needed to reevaluated our standards.

Damaged books to Recycle

Obviously damaged books from the recently donated boxes were immediately set aside for recycling As long as I was reorganizing, I decided to also also review the books on the shelfs and evaluate their condition.

I must admit my temper sent me on this tizzy. However, I stand by my decision.  It is time we put out the word that we need some recently released books donated to the exchange, and request that all donated books are in acceptable condition.

The majority of the people that have donated books in the past have been wonderful. Some have made cash donations to help out, one wonderful couple even sorted them out alphabetically for us.
