A Message to the people of Cozumel-COVID-19

Pedro Joaquin Delbouis, Cozumel Municipal President, addresses Cozumel about COVID-19

Cozumel has concluded the first phase of (combating) COVID-19 without any cases of the illness, and now we enter Phase Two that obligates us to take more drastic steps to close entry to the island.

But we only have success in unity and cooperation and because of that, we are calling out to the families of Cozumel to take the social responsibility of staying at home, this to protect your health and wellbeing.

Cozumel COVID-19 CURFEW!

We are implementing that as of Friday, March 27, from 11:30 at night until 5 in the morning that you do not travel in the streets or avenues, instead stay at home. We will be enforcing vigilance to ensure the security and social peace of the island.

Cozumel Passenger Ferry

Also, we will reinforce sanitation measures taken with the Playa del Carmen Pier. In the Ferry Terminal where we have installed a filter of supervision, in addition to complying with procedures for disinfecting and social distancing, we are adding the taking of the passenger’s temperature. This to identify those that are ill and prevent contact.

In the international airport measures are being taken with the support of the concessions and the airlines have diminished the number of flights.   We are asking that the airlines add more restrictions to the transporting of passengers. We are also limiting the airlines to flights in the mornings and afternoons only to coincide within the operations of the island and comply with the Federal law of Free Transit.

To guarantee the supplies of the island, we will maintain the cargo ferry crossing with some restrictions.

More Measures to combat COVID-19

We will continue with the disinfection of the public and maritime transports.

We are working with PROFECO to prevent the unjustified raising of product pricing.

We are working with the military and ensuring that we are working in conjunction with the State.

Fundraising

Some Municipal employees have come forward and taken a salary cut to establish a fund to purchase and distribute a basket of staples where they are most needed and together with the private sector we are organizing to meet the needs of the community. This is a call out to everyone; each one must do their share.

Stay Home!

If you do not need to leave your home, do not do so! It is time to make this effort, because this is the only way to combat the Corona Virus.

Cozumel has always been characterized as an active society, united, and participatory. One more time we will demonstrate that the power of Cozumel lies in its people. STRENGTH COZUMEL!
