The Cozumel Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that originally provided a permanent home for abused and neglected horses,. However, they now also shelter dogs, cats, & pigs.

Rancho Universal HEAL A HORSE COZUMEL ANIMAL SANCTUARY Since 2001
In the Autumn of 2001, we were told that there was a horse tied up to a tree. His legs tied in PVC tubes to prevent him from moving and force him to endure a long painful death. The word spread and soon there were a lot more horses.

We believe that education is the way to change. Thanks to caring people who helped with donations we were able to provide free clinics with a renowned farrier Chad Bembenek, veterinarians and even the star of the TV series “Domador de Caballos Martin Ochoteco.”
Horses, Piggies, Cats, Dogs
They all become family regardless of species. We currently have 30 dogs, 10 cats and 3 pigs.

Although we started rescuing horses, we could not just ignore the suffering of other animals! We are their last resort, none of our animals live alone in small cages. Only when a perfect home is found do we give them up for adoption. People sign an adoption contract which states that if they cannot keep them for any reason they must bring them back.

The Founder
The founder, Liliana Hough, was born in Mexico City and attended boarding school in England. Her life revolved around horses. The British Horse Society trained her; she owned and ran a riding school in London and worked as an instructor and therapist. The Asociación Mexicana de Equitation Terapéutica (AMET Mexican Asociación for Riding for people with disabilities) and Riding Federation of Riding for the Disabled International (FRDI) Certified her. She has loved horses all her life and studied them as a professional for some 30 years.
A One-Woman Operation

Liliana Hough does everything at the ranch as she cannot afford to pay for help. The expense of feed, medicine, and medical bills are high. The Rancho Universo needs financial aid to survive. You can donate through www.healahorsecozumelsanctuary.org and through PayPal liliana@healahorsecozumelsanctuary.org (They are not related to the Humane Society of Cozumel, and do not receive funds through them.)
Adopt, sponsor, donate, network give us a like in Facebook!
As with many “Non-Profits,” the ongoing challenges of operation are always a major concern. Animal Sanctuary can use your support and aid. We urge you to contact them directly as they need many types of support. Here are a few ways you can help:
Volunteer Your Time

If you would like to volunteer your time, they need support in grooming, feeding, and cleaning. and welcome those that can aid in these daily efforts. Please feel free to phone them at 987-119-98-28 to see how you can aid in providing “hand’s-on” support to the center.

Fundraising
If you are a member of a group that would be interested in fundraising for the Animal Sanctuary, please contact them so they can provide information for your fundraising event or group. They are always happy to help in any way to aid you in your fundraising efforts for their ranch and are grateful for all donations. For more information, please email them at rancho.universo@gmail.com.
Donate
All donations received go directly towards feed, medicine, maintenance of the facility, grooming supplies (brushes, combs, saddle soap, etc.) and are what allows the center to continue providing the rescue services. Again, we stress that ALL DONATIONS need to be made “DIRECTLY” to Rancho Universo as they “ARE NOT” associated with the Humane Society of Cozumel, but are a separate, “Non-Profit” organization.
I am hoping you will consider supporting the work that the Cozumel Animal Sanctuary does by donating or sharing with others who would like to help.
