SERVING COZUMEL SINCE 2006

Aura Holguin Resch, Founder

Welcome to The Cozumel Sun

The Cozumel Sun provides the latest news and information to the English-speaking community in Cozumel. It all started when Tiempo de Cozumel, a local newspaper, featured our column at the beginning of 2006. The column quickly turned into two to three pages of news in English.

The Cozumel Sun exists as a service to the community. The Cozumel Sun Facebook Group, and Facebook page provide day to day news and information.

Our goal is to give back to the people of this beautiful island paradise. Local businesses advertise with us free of charge. Donations and sales from our community store help pay for our operating expenses and help fund our community assistance programs.

Your support helps us give back to the Cozumel community!

Readers are welcome to contribute articles, pictures, and reviews to both our website and Facebook pages.

Community Assistance

Pandemic Distribution of Groceries

The goal of the Community Assistance program is to aid individuals and families in a crisis. This can be emergency food, medical expenses, or medication. We help with school related expenses for children. There is a “drop in” meal policy. We feed the hungry, no questions asked. We coordinate our services with other existing community programs.

Medicine Collection Center

All medication that we collect goes to “Todos Somos Cozumel”, a free Clinic and pharmacy for low income families. Please check your medicine cabinet regularly and bring us your unused medication!

Medical Equipment Loan and Rental Program

Community Assistance Program

We collect medical equipment to loan and donate. This includes wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, nebulizer machines, etc. We donate free of charge for low income, a donation of your choice for the rest.

Note: Walkers and Canes are always in demand. They are a necessity for those without medical insurance. Therefore, we donate them to local families, they are not loaned. If anyone has extras around the house, please drop them off to us.

Other Medical Supplies

We collect an assortment of supplies such as braces and medical support hose. Always check with us. We regularly donate everything on hand to Todo Somos Cozumel, DIF, or another agency to distribute. However, we quickly start accumulating more donated items.

Advocate Existing Programs

We feature legitimate community programs. These programs are in need of donations and/or volunteers. T.C.S. has successfully matched volunteers and donors with community programs since 2006. During the Pandemic, the Community Kitchens that fed hundreds of families in Cozumel were our priority.

Book Exchange and Store

The Book Exchange and Store

The Cozumel Sun Book Exchange and Community Store was originally Papeleria y Novedades Mama Lilly. The goal was to help a local family become self-sufficient. Unfortunately, like many businesses on the island, the Papeleria folded due to the pandemic.

In September of 2021, the store reopened as a Book Exchange and community store. It is operated by my adopted grandson Julian Martinez Cabrera.

In September 2023, tragedy struck and I was diagnosed with cancer. Our new location was smaller and did not have the space for the book exchange nor store.

We moved the Book Exchange to the Cozumel Public Library on 30th Avenue. We attempted to continue the store online. On-Line Services include copying, printing, lamination, book binding.

January 2026 my health improved, we moved back to our original location enabling us to reopen the community store. We petitioned the Cozumel Public library to return our books and shelves. As of April 2026 have The Cozumel Sun Book Exchange open to the public.
