Cozumel CAM School for Children with Disabilities
The CAM (Centro de Atención Múltiple) School is a specialized educational center dedicated to helping children and young adults with intellectual, physical, behavioral, and other disabilities develop the skills they need to live more independent, confident, and productive lives.

CAM does much more than provide a traditional education. It works with each student according to their individual abilities and needs, while also supporting their families.
Education, Therapy & Family Support
CAM takes a comprehensive approach to education. Teachers and staff work with students and their parents to establish realistic, individualized goals based on each child’s abilities and potential.
Services include:
- Specialized education and classroom instruction
- Physical therapy
- Psychological support
- Social-worker services
- Communication instruction, including sign language
- Development of social, practical, and life skills
CAM serves 80+ younger students, from approximately 3 months through 13 years of age, with a wide range of disabilities. Students are placed in classrooms designed around their ages, abilities, and educational needs.
Some classrooms specialize in students learning to communicate through sign language. Other classrooms include students who may have visual impairments, physical limitations, behavioral challenges, or other disabilities.
CAM Laboral: Preparing Young Adults for Life and Work
CAM Laboral provides an innovative alternative education program for 30+ young adults, ages 14–22.
The program extends education beyond the traditional classroom by teaching practical, firsthand skills that can help students become more independent and prepared for adult life.
Students learn important workplace and life responsibilities, including:
- Arriving on time
- Following directions
- Working cooperatively with others
- Cleaning and maintaining their workspace
- Accepting responsibility
- Developing self-confidence
- Learning basic technical skills and crafts
The goal is not simply to teach a skill—it is to help each young person discover what they are capable of doing.

For some higher-functioning students, the experience and skills gained through CAM can help open the door to employment as a helper, apprentice, or entry-level worker.
CAM: Gives these young people an opportunity to become more independent and contributing members of their families and community.
Depends on Community Support
Relies heavily on donations to provide the equipment, teaching materials, classroom resources, and supplies its students need.
That is where community organizations and individuals make a meaningful difference.

Carrie’s Heart supports CAM by providing classroom supplies and sponsoring a Christmas celebration, including a specially selected gift for each child.
SAIL has donated children’s walkers, woodworking tools, craft supplies, sports equipment, white canes, and specially designed balls for visually impaired students.
Friends of Cozumel supporters have provided wood, craft materials, and other supplies needed by teachers and students.
These donations are more than material goods. They give teachers the tools to teach and give students opportunities to learn, participate, and succeed.
How You Can Help
CAM serves children and young adults who have unique challenges—and tremendous potential.
A donation of classroom supplies, educational materials, equipment, craft materials, tools, or other needed resources can directly improve a student’s ability to learn and develop new skills.
When you support CAM, you are not simply donating supplies. You are helping give a child or young adult the opportunity to learn, grow, gain confidence, and become more independent.
