A Labor of Love

The Cozumel Sun Book Exchange

We have been busy organizing and sorting through hundreds of books these past two months. (This has not stopped our anxious readers from popping in and exchanging books; one lady even went through our boxes!)

There have been countless hours of unpacking and sorting books. Then came the time-consuming task of alphabetizing. The biggest challenge was very creative thinking to find space for all of the books.

The book Exchange easily is taking over half of the store space. As of today, I still must figure out space for children’s books, religious books, how to books, and guidebooks.

Expenses to Date

Providing this service to the community is not only time consuming, it is also expensive. Before moving the Book Exchange to the public library, we carried the cost. We encouraged readers to make purchases at the store and make donations. Unfortunately, one or two people donated and very few ever made purchases.

Moving Truck & Movers                                $1,000

Repairs to the Cozumel Library / paint          $ 1,000

Book Ends*                                                      $ 1,493

To Date Out of Pocket                                    $ 3,493

Special thanks to:

Michael Rhodes came all the way from Europe to help us. He traveled from Switzerland by way of Ceylon, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, to help get us started. Michael aided in boxing and transporting the books, as well as alphabetizing most of the paperbacks.

Cindy Trautwein &  Flip Concierge and Tours for purchasing our store sign!

Funds Needed

The book ends and we purchased cover about one third of the bookshelves. We will need to raise another $2986 to cover all the shelf ends.
